The seven measurements we ask for
You don't need all seven for every order — a shirt-only alteration might only need three — but this is the full set we use to build a complete custom pattern.
| Measurement | How to take it |

| Chest / Bust | Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level and snug but not tight. |
| Waist | Measure around your natural waistline — usually just above the belly button, where your body bends when you lean sideways. |
| Hip | Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your hips, roughly 8 inches below your waist. |
| Shoulder | Measure straight across your back from the edge of one shoulder to the other. |
| Sleeve length | From the shoulder edge to wherever you want the sleeve to end — wrist, three-quarter, or elbow. |
| Suit length | From the shoulder down to where you want the shirt to fall — knee, mid-calf, or ankle. |
| Bottom length | From your natural waist down to your ankle, for salwar or trouser bottoms. |
For a rough sense of where your numbers should land, our product pages each include a standard XS–XXL reference table — useful for comparison, but every LUNA order is still cut to your exact numbers, not the nearest standard size.
Measuring yourself in five steps
- Wear well-fitted clothing, not loose layers — measurements taken over a baggy kurta will come out wrong.
- Stand naturally, arms relaxed at your sides, feet together.
- Keep the tape parallel to the floor for chest, waist, and hip — a tape that angles up or down changes the number.
- Note whether you want a fitted, semi-fitted, or relaxed silhouette — this changes how we use the raw numbers, not the numbers themselves.
- Write every number down as you go rather than trying to remember them at the end.

What if I don't have a soft measuring tape at home?
A soft dressmaker's tape works best, but in a pinch a piece of string measured against a ruler gives an accurate result too. Avoid a rigid metal tape — it won't sit correctly around the body.

Yes — this is how most of our out-of-town and international clients order. We walk through each measurement together on a WhatsApp video call, so you're never guessing alone.
What if my measurements are slightly off?
Share what you have and flag anywhere you're unsure — our tailors build in a small ease allowance, and we always confirm the full measurement set back to you in writing before cutting begins.
